PURPOSE: To enhance the sensitivity of a photographic emulsion by incorporating in the photographic emulsion, grains obtained by jointing silver halide crystals high in the content of silver bromide with host crystals in a protruding state, and a substance having adsorptivity to silver halide.

CONSTITUTION: Face-centerd cubic crystals consisting of silver chlorobromide, iodochloride, iodochlorobromide, or the like containing silver chloride or this silver chloride as a solid solution are used as the host crystals. The face- centered cubic crystals of silver halide grains higher inn the content of silver bromide than the average of the total silver halide grains are jointed in protruding forms as guest crystals with the corner or edge of each of the host crystals. The emulsion of the titled contains the silver halide grains of said structure and the substance having adsorptivity to silver halide, such as a spectral sensitizing dye of a cyanine dye, thus permitting the obtained photographic emulsion to be made higher in sensitivity than the host grains.
