The photographic sensitive material contains the silver halide grains having an average aspect ratio of 8-100 in a silver halide emulsion layer and in this layer at least one of the compounds represented by formula I-IV in which Z1 is an atomic group necessary to form a 5-or 6-membered N- containing hetero ring; each of L1-L4 is a methine group; each of V1 and V2 is a univalent group; E1 is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4; p1 is 0 or 1; n1 is 0, 1, 2, car 3; each of R1 and R2 is an H atom or an alkyl or aryl or heterocyclic group; M1 is a charge-balancing counter ion; m1 is a number of 0-10 necessary to neutralize the charge in the molecule; and La is a methylene group.
