PURPOSE: To obtain the titled material contg. the emulsion of a silver halide particle which is suitable for spectral sensitization and has a large specific surface area by forming a specified protrusion and by stabilizing the shape of the particle by a particle forming stopping agent before chemically sensitizing the emulsion.

CONSTITUTION: The emulsion layer contg. ≥50wt.% of the silver halide particle is composed from the silver halide particle which contains the protrusion having ≤0.15μm projected area diameter on the surface of the particle in an amount of 10W10,000 numbers/μm2. The halogen composite of said protrusion is different from that of the base particle of the silver halide particle. And, the silver halide emulsion is chemically sensitized by a compd. selected from a sulfur compd., a selenium compd. and a gold compd., and is spectrally sensitized by a methine dye. Namely, the protrusion is formed, followed by stabilizing the shape of the particle by the particle forming stopping agent before chemically sensitizing the emulsion.
