To provide a silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material having high sensitivity, low fog, high maximum density and excellent silver tone even when rapidly heat-developed with a small laser imager, and an image forming method.

The silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material has a photosensitive layer containing an organic silver salt, silver halide grains, a binder and a reducing agent on a support. The photosensitive layer has a dry thickness of 4-16 μm and contains a non-photosensitive silver salt of aliphatic carboxylic acid having an average equivalent spherical diameter of 0.05-0.50 μm as the organic silver salt.
