To obtain a novel compound that is useful as a silylating agent that can add functional groups to a silanol functional organopolysiloxane, silica and other inorganic fillers and base plates and can quickly react with silanol groups.
This compound is represented by the formula (R1 is H, an alkyl, can alkenyl where at least one is H, an alkenyl; R2 is H, an alkyl), typically N-propylbis(hydrogendimethylsilyl) carbamate or the like. The compound of the formula is prepared by allowing a primary amine, for example, isopropylamine or the like, to react with carbon dioxide in the presence of a tertiary amine, for example, triethylamine, for example, at -20-30°C to form a trialkylammonium salt of an N-alkyl carbamate, followed by reaction of the ammonium product with a silane of the formula: R13SiX (X is an eliminable group), for example, hydrogendimethylchlorosilane or the like.
