PURPOSE: To achieve high speed and high response, by driving the roll for rolling mill through a single pole machine integrated with the roll.

CONSTITUTION: A roll 1 for rolling mill is buried with superconducting coils 2a∼2b for generating filed and operated in permanent current mode. Furthermore, a superconducting bar 5 is buried with the opposite ends being shortcircuited through superconducting rings 3a∼3b and buried in the roll. The rings 3a∼3b are brought into contact with brushes 4a∼4b for feeding DC current. Since no driving system is required for the rolling mill, system response can be improved.
