Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simplify the changeover between a single rear wheel mode and a double rear wheel mode by forming spline hole sections on the axles of two concentric sun gears transferring the rotation from an engine, and removably fitting two axles having spline shafts to a gear casing respectively.

CONSTITUTION: The rotation of the pinion 17 of a drive shaft 14 is transferred to a differential cage 19 by a crown gear 18, and sun gears 24, 25 are rotated by the rotation via planetary gears 22, 23. Spline holes are formed at the shaft sections 26, 27 of the sun gears 24, 25 respectively. In the single rear wheel drive mode, a housing 61 rotatably supporting a rear wheel shaft 66 is inserted into the spline hole of the shaft section 26 and is fixed to the first output portion 31 of a casing 11. In the double rear wheel drive mode, a drive shaft 54 is spline-coupled with a second output portion 30. A changeover can be made by merely fitting 4 one union 56 to the casing 11.
