Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain rigidity which is simple in structure and resistible against a high rolling stress by successively installing a plurality of housings, securing to one another and also coupling a common mill drive, to the base structure extending in parallel relationship beneath the pass line.
CONSTITUTION: The housings 32 are arranged successively and alternately along the pass line 18, with the mutually overlapping vertical faces 32a coming into contact in a reference face P and secured with bolts 33a. In addition, the horizontal lower face 32b of the housings 32 are secured with bolts 33b on the support plate 20 on the base structure 24. Each housing 32 is equipped with a shaft 34 that supports a bevel gear 36 meshing with the bevel gear 38 of a pair of intermediate drive shaft 40, while the shafts 34 are connected to each other with a joint 50 and driven by a driving motor 14 through a speed increasing gear 12. A roll package 44 has a pair of roll shafts for mounting a work roll 16 and supports a gear 48 separately engaging with the claw gear 42 of the intermediate drive shaft 40.
