Abstract:

To easily produce the single phase sintered compact with excellent performance characteristics of an intermetallic compound composed of the metals of Mg, Sn and Si expressed by chemical formula: Mg2Si0.50Sn0.50.

A mixture obtained by mixing Si powder with Sb or Bi powder as a dopant, Mg and Si are brought into solid-liquid reaction so as to synthesize a solid solution, and thereafter, the powder of the solid solution is hot-pressed so as to obtain the objective sintered compact. Thus, the single phase sintered compound whose Seebeck coefficient α and specific resistance ρ can be controlled by the control of carrier concentration n and having excellent thermoelectric performance is produced.
