PURPOSE: To provide the title composition good in desizability, little developing offensive odor with time, capable of giving sized fabrics with moderate hardness and favorable touch.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition having above-mentioned advantages can be obtained by emulsion polymerization between (A) 87-96.7 (pref. 90-95)wt.% of vinyl acetate, (B) 0.3-8(pref. 0.7-4)wt.% of an unsaturated carboxylic acid [e.g. (meth)acrylic acid] and (C) 1-8(pref. 2-6)wt.% of a monomer of the formula (R1 and R2 are each H or methyl) [e.g. (meth)acrylamide-based monomer]. Incorporation of 0.1-30wt.% of a cationic polymeric compound (e.g. a cation- modified hydroxyalkyl cellulose or cation-modified starch) in the present composition will result in high adsorbability to clothing and enable sizing in washing machines. Fabrics sized with the present composition can easily be desized by washing them with a weakly alkaline detergent, therefore favorably removing stains from them.
