PURPOSE: To provide a cosmetic effective to prevent the erythema and melanos is caused by ultraviolet radiation, and containing water-soluble extract prepared by decocting a specific vegetable crude drug with hot water or with cold mixture of water and an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: 1pt. of a vegetable crude drug selected from KOKA (flower of Carthamus tinctorius), SHOKYO (rhizome of Zingiber officinale), OUBAKU (bark of Phellodendron amurense), KAIKA (flower of Sophora japonica), JIOU (root of Rehmannia glutinosa), SHAKUYAKU (root of Paeonia lactiflora), BYAKUJUTSU (rhizome of Atractylodes lancea), BOTANPI (root of Paeonia moutan), E TAKUSHA (bulb of Alisma plantago-aquatica), black tea, and green tea or an aribitrary mixture of the above crude drugs, is immersed in 8pts. of water at 80W100°C, or in 8pts. of a 1:1 mixture of water and an alcohol selected from methanol, ethanol and n-propanol at 5W10°C, and the obtained water-soluble extract is used as a component of a cosmetic. The extract has the activity to inhibit tyrosinase activity. Since the extract is soluble in water, it does not form a precipitate in a transparent liquid cosmetic, and can be compounded easily.
