PURPOSE: To provide a skin-beautifying cosmetic containing a specific ascorbic acid derivative, having excellent skin-beautifying effect and storage stability and exhibiting improved vitamin C solubility.
CONSTITUTION: The objective cosmetic contains an ascorbic acid derivative of formula I [R1 is group of formula II (R3 and R4 are H or CH3; R5 is 1-20C hydrocarbon group, etc.)] or formula III (R2 is same as formula II). The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting a halocarboxylic acid with tocopherol in the presence of a base (e.g. K2CO3 or NaOH) in a solvent (e.g. DMF or DMSO), reacting the resultant tocopherol carboxylic acid ether with 5,6-O-isopropylidene-L-ascorbic acid produced by the reaction of L-ascorbic acid and acetyl chloride and stirring the reaction product in THF, etc., in the presence of an acid to eliminate the protecting group.
