To provide a slag fuming operation method excellent in productivity in which the volatilization separation of zinc and lead per unit time is promoted and dust including a large amount of zinc and lead is obtained.
The slag fuming operation method includes heating and reducing in an electric furnace the slag yielded from a smelting furnace for smelting zinc and/or lead, and volatilizing and separating zinc and lead. A side length or diameter of a coal agent to be added as a reducing agent is prepared to be 3-50 mm. The slag and the coal agent are charged together at the same time in an electric furnace by nearly evenly adding the coal agent onto the slag, and the distance (head drop) from a charge port to the surface of a melt in the electric furnace is made to be 30 cm to 1 m.
