A capsule bed is provided with a sleep controlling device (80). The physiological amount of the person in the capsule bed (70) is detected and the sleep state of the person in the bed (70) is judged based on the detected physiological amount. On the other hand, a dream inducing stimulus (93) corresponding to the dream dreamed by the person in the bed (70) is previously stored and when the person in the bed (70) is in a REM sleep state, the dream inducing stimulus (93) is generated. Thereafter, an awakening stimulus (96) for awakening the person in the bed (70) in a predetermined sleep state after the dream inducing stimulus (93) is generated, is generated. Concretely, when the person in the bed (70) is shifted from the REM sleep state to a NREM sleep state, the awakening stimulus (96) is generated. Consequently, the person remembers a comfortable dream after awakening.
