To give adaptability to a diameter of a cylinder for a printer, a coating machine or all the other machines by constituting the cylinder by one layer or adjacent layers of plural layers, and contracting at least one layer of them by heat to adapt to a diameter of the cylinder of the machine.
A heat-shrinkable layer 4 is inserted between a support layer 3 and a compressible layer 2. And, the layer 4 may be inserted between a flexographic layer 1 and the layer 2 or between the layers 2 and 3 to constitute the sleeve. One or more heat-shrinkable layers 4 can be manufactured by a polyethylene-based material, polyvinyl chloride-based material, polyamide-based material or the like or the other polymer material having crystallinity lying between 10 and 60% in an effective temperature range. After the sleeve having a diameter larger than that of the cylinder is mounted at a predetermined position on the cylinder, it is heated. Then, the sleeve is shrunk so as to be retained on an outer periphery of the cylinder and simply and completely held.
