PURPOSE: To provide a slicing machine that can prevent the occurrence of cracks or flaws and thus improve the yield without incurring the decrease of productivity by conducting slicing at the most suitable cutting speed.

CONSTITUTION: The slicing machine includes a load detector 23 provided between an ingot securing support 22 and an ingot W for detecting a cutting load in the cutting direction during the period of cutting the ingot, forwarding means 12 for permitting the ingot W to be horizontally forwarded for slicing with respect to a blade 4, and control means for controlling the action of the forwarding means 12 on the basis of a value of the cutting load detected by the cutting load detector 23 in the cutting direction. Also, there is provided blade displacement detecting means for detecting the displacement in the plate thickness direction of the blade 4 in the proximity of the cutting position of the ingot W, to then be connected to the control means 24.
