PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide member that detects partial wear and nonuniform contact and solves these problems, and a method for operating the same.SOLUTION: A slide member has a pad part, a plurality of thermocouples each having a tip provided in the pad part, used for measuring the temperature of the pad part, a plurality of piezoelectric elements provided corresponding to each of the plurality of thermocouples, a plurality of pressure detection units provided corresponding to each of the plurality of piezoelectric elements, and a control circuit that controls the plurality of piezoelectric elements on the basis of temperature and pressure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
