To provide a slide type variable resistor which achieves good position detection accuracy even when the slide type variable resistor receives an operation force applied in a direction oblique to a slide movement direction to be operated.

A slide type variable resistor 1 includes: an insulation substrate 11 where a resistor pattern 11a and a collector pattern 11b extend on one surface so as to be arranged parallel to each other; a wiper 12 slidably contacting with the resistor pattern 11a and the collector pattern 11b; a slider 13 which has an operation part, holds the wiper 12, and may slide along a longitudinal direction of the insulation substrate 11; and a case 14 having a top surface 14a, which is disposed so as to face and be spaced away from the insulation substrate 11 and is provided with a long hole part 14b, and a pair of side walls 14c, which are provided from the top surface 14a toward the insulation substrate 11 side along a longitudinal direction of the top surface 14a and face each other. In the slide type variable resistor 1, the slider 13 slides with the operation part 13b inserted into the long hole part 14b. An elastic part 13c, elastically contacting with the one side wall and crimping the slider 13 to the other side wall, is provided in the slider 13.
