To provide a sliding bearing that can secure a predetermined clearance between itself and a rack shaft to eliminate occurrence of collision sound with the rack shaft caused by vibration generated in the rack shaft while preventing an increase in frictional torque.
A sliding bearing 1 includes a bearing body 2; slits 5 provided in the bearing body 2 and extended from one end face 3 in the axial direction A of the bearing body 2 toward the other end face 4 in the axial direction A of the bearing body 2 up to a part in front of the end face 4; slits 6 provided in the bearing body 2 and extended from the end face 4 of the bearing body 2 toward the end face 3 up to a part in front of the end face 3; sliding surfaces 8 provided on the inner peripheral surface 7 of the bearing body 2 and partially divided in a direction B around an axis by the slits 5, 6; mounting grooves 10 provided on the outer peripheral surface 9 of the bearing body 2; and an elastic ring 11 partially projected in a radial direction from the outer peripheral surface 9 of the bearing body 2 and fittingly mounted to the respective mounting grooves 10 so as to reduce the diameter of the bearing body 2.
