To produce a sliding material for high temp. use maintaining the workability of stainless steel or the like and improved in wear resistance at high temps. without deteriorating its strength by adding a specified ratio of chromium carbide to a metallic material essentially consisting of one or more kinds among iron, cobalt and chromium.
A metallic material essentially consisting of at least one among iron, cobalt and chromium is added with 10 to 40wt.% chromium carbide to prepare a sliding material for high temp. use. In this way, the sliding material having high temp. wear resistance more excellent than that of stainless steel, more inexpensive than stellite and excellent in workability and weldability can be obtd. For forming the sliding face of this sliding material on the surface of a base metal, the powder of each component in the sliding material is mixed, which is welded by cladding to the surface of the base metal by a powder plasma welding method to easily obtain the sliding face.
