Title:
SLIDING MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59219427
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the resistance to wear and seizure of a sliding material which consists basically of Al or an Al alloy without decreasing the strength of the base material by constituting the sliding surface of said material of a hardened layer having primary crystal Si of the concn. higher than that of the base material.

CONSTITUTION: Al or an Al alloy is formed to a prescribed shape by casting, forging or machining, and the sliding surface is polished or ground. Si paste 5 kneaded with Si powder by a resin is coated on the surface thereof and a laser beam is irradiated thereto to melt partially the paste 5 and the base material right under the paste 5. The irradiation of the laser beam is then ceased and the molten part is solidified to form a hardened layer 4. Since the content of Si of the layer 4 is extremely high, the primary crystal Si is formed at a high concn. in the layer 4. The surface of the sliding surface built-up by the layer 4 is finished smooth by buffing in succession to lapping.
