Abstract:
To provide a sliding member including a self-detection material for easily monitoring damage of the sliding member with high reliability for an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: In a sliding member of an internal combustion engine, including a self-detection material for monitoring damage to the sliding member, the sliding member has a single layer or a multi-layer structure composed of a metal, an alloy, and/or a resin material. The self-detection material is embedded in at least one layer of the layers constituting the sliding member. The self-detection material is composed of at least one type of material which exhibits a signal characteristic in response to external energy.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
