To provide a sliding member and its manufacturing method inhibiting abrasion of the sliding member, in which parts where abrasion resistance is mainly required and a part where lubricating ability is mainly required are successively formed in the same plane, and properly imparting the lubricating ability.
The sliding member (cylinder liner 2) is successively formed in the same plane with the parts A, B where abrasion resistance is mainly required and with the part C where lubricating ability is mainly required. In this sliding member and its manufacturing method, a hard surface portion having rapidly-solidified structure 10 is formed in the part A required of the abrasion resistance and a low abrasion surface portion in which a plurality of concaves 11 serving as oil sumps are arranged independently of each other is formed in the part C requiring lubricity.
