To provide a sliding member capable of improving productivity without increasing man-hours for processing having reduced frictional resistance as with recessed parts having substantially W-shaped cross sections and a method for forming fine recessed parts on a sliding surface.
Upon forming a plurality of the fine recessed parts 11 on a bore inner wall 1a of a cylinder bore 1 out of a piston and the cylinder bore 1 which slide against each other, a plurality of fine first recesses 11A having substantially U-shaped cross sections are formed in one line by continuously irradiating a laser hv on the bore inner wall 1a, and thereafter, the laser hv is irradiated while shifting its irradiating position alternately one by one in the alignment direction of the formed first recesses 11A in one line to form second recesses 11B continuing from the first recesses 11A.
