Abstract:

To provide a sliding member which can stably obtain a low friction characteristic and wearing resistance, by reducing friction loss on a sliding surface (small friction coefficient (μ) is attained) by using a particulate graphite.

A graphite layer 15 that contains oriented specific graphite particles 17 in an oriented state, whose half width at half maximum in a rocking curve in a graphite-2H 002 diffraction position by X-ray diffraction measurement is 5 degrees or less is provided along a sliding direction, on all faces of a skirt part 13 that is the sliding surface of a piston for an engine.
