Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a sliding member which can exhibit excellent sliding properties under underwater conditions as well as under dry and wet conditions by uniformly dispersing a synthetic-resin-coated filler powder composition obtained by polymerizing or cod, polymerizing an olefinic monomer in the presence of a filler powder having sliding properties in a matrix comprising a water-resistant synthetic resin.
CONSTITUTION: An olefinic monomer is polymerized or copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst prepared by treating a filler powder 5 having sliding properties with a highly active catalyst component to obtain a synthetic-resin-coated filler powder composition. This composition is mixed with a binder comprising a water-resistant synthetic resin and optionally a reinforcement such as carbon fibers, and the resulting mixture is molded and cured with an infection molding machine to obtain the objective sliding member 1 composed of the synthetic-resin-coated filler powder composition 2 and the reinforcement 3 uniformly dispersed in a matrix 4 comprising the water- resistant synthetic resin. This member 1 can be used under dry and wet conditions and even when used in underwater conditions, it does not suffer from the denaturation or loss of the solid lubricant and can keep its wear resistance and lubrication properties for a long time.
