To provide a sliding member whose friction coefficient can be reduced in a range from a low temperature to a high temperature.
The sliding member 1 in sliding contact with another member via lubricating oil comprises an oil reserving recessed portion 10 provided in a sliding contact face 5 in sliding contact with another member for reserving the lubricating oil. The oil reserving recessed portion is formed so that its capacity is reduced with temperature rise. The oil reserving recessed portion is formed by embedding a material 30 whose linear expansion coefficient is greater than that of a base material for the sliding member, into a pilot hole of the sliding contact face in the state of being recessed from the sliding contact face.
