Abstract:
To provide a sliding member capable of sustainably developing a low-friction effect even in the case where a polymer brush layer is formed on a sliding surface of a subordinate sliding member.
A sliding member 1 has a polymer brush layer 20 formed on a sliding surface sliding on a counter-member and composed of a plurality of polymer chains extending from a surface 11 of a base material 10. The base material surface 11 has a plurality of recesses; a polymer brush layer 20 is formed on the base material surface 11 having the recesses 12 formed thereon; a polymer brush layer 20a formed in the recess 12 contacts with the sliding surface of the counter-member 40 in sliding.
