Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a sliding parts being difficult to develop pitting and scuff and having excellent durability by making the structure of surface layer on the sliding parts having the specific chemical composition to the structure with carbide in net state on parallel face to the sliding surface ad carbide in columnar-state on vertical face distributed.

CONSTITUTION: A mold 7 formed with chillers 8A, 8B on faces of cavities 10A, 10B corresponding to the sliding part surface in cast sliding parts, e.g., cam shaft, is manufactured. Successively, molten metal composed of 1.0 - 2.0 wt% carbon, 0.5 - 1.5 wt% silicon, 0.3 - 1.1 wt% manganese, 10 -17 wt% chromium, 0.2 - 1.2 wt% molybdenum, 0.2 - 0.5 wt% vanadium and the balance iron is poured into the mold 7 to cast the cam shaft.
