The sliding resistance control device is used for controlling sliding resistance between the guide posts (outer guide post 23 and inner guide post 224) and the bushes (outer guide bush 25 and inner guide bush 226) on a die set 2 of the press machine P. The sliding resistance control device has a torque acquisition section 73 for acquiring a drive torque value of a power source (servo motor 31) for acting pressing pressure to the die set 2 on the motion data made from speed signals showing moving speed of a Z-axis movement mechanism 3 for moving the die set 2 in a pressing direction and position signals showing a slide position, and a sliding resistance control section (maintenance necessity determination section 72) for controlling sliding resistance between the guide posts and the bushes on the basis of the acquired drive torque value.
