Abstract:

PURPOSE: To depress the wear of a mating member having superior wear resis tance and low hardness by forming a sliding surface structure of a metal crystal aggregate having body-centered cubic structure and by staying (3hho in Miller's indices) orienting metal crystal with a predetermined ratio in the aggregate.
CONSTITUTION: A cylinder block 1 for internal combustion engine has an Al alloy-made cylinder block body and a cast iron-made cylinder sleeve 3. A layer sliding surface structure 4 is formed by plating treatment on the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder sleeve 3. The sliding surface structure 4 consists of a metal crystal aggregate having body-centered cubic structure (bcc structure,). The aggregate contains a (3hho in Miller's indices) orienting metal crystal in which its (3hho in Miller's indices) surface is faced a sliding surface 4a to a cylinder bore inner wall. The abundance rate S of the orienting metal crystal is set to S≥40%. Thus, good wear resistance is available even under nonlubricating state and wear to a mating member is depressed.
