PURPOSE: To suppress and prevent the floating and concentrating of sludge and carry out sludge concn. efficiently by aerating the sludge prior to settling and concentrating, detecting the concn. of the waste gas released from the sludge, and controlling the flow rate of aeration in accordance with the waste gas concn.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge of a settling basin or the like is conducted through a transport pipe 1 and a sludge pump 2 into a sludge aerating vessel 3, where it is aerated by the gas supplied through a blower 4, a transport pipe 5 and an air diffuser 6. The sludge after the aeration is supplied to a sludge concentrating vessel 9, where the sludge is settled and concd. to concd. sludge. The concd. sludge is collected by the rotation of a scraper 11, and is discharged through a discharge pipe 13 by means of a pump 12. A sludge flow rate Qs is detected with a flowmeter 15 in the sludge transport pipe 1, and the detected value thereof is fed to a controller 16. Thence, a proportional constant K is given by a setter 17, and K×Qs is fed as a signal to a converter 18, which converts this to the signal by which the blower 4 can be operated.
