PURPOSE: To effectually burn sludge restricting the amount of sludge burning and variations of incinerator temperature by variably controlling the amount of insertion of dehydrated sludge into a sludge incinerator in response to an operation parameter of the sludge incinerator detected by a sensor.
CONSTITUTION: A coagulant is inserted into a raw sludge in a coagulation reaction tank to obtain coagulated sludge. Then, dehydration of the coagulated sludge is performed with a dehydrator 9. The dehydrated sludge is inserted into a sludge incinerator 10 for burning. During operation of a sludge processing apparatus an operation parameter of (preferably pressure or temperature of the sludge incinerator) of the sludge incinerator 10 is detected by a sensor 12. The amount of insertion of the dehydrated sludge into the sludge incinerator is variably controlled by a controller 11 in response to the detected operation parameter. As a result, the amount of insertion of the sludge is variably controlled in response to present burning capability of the sludge incinerator 10. Hereby, the amount of sludge burning and variations of temperature of the sludge incinerator 10 can be restricted and hence sludge can be effectually burned.
