This invention relates to a composition and a method for making and detecting a calcium-activated potassium channel protein and a nucleic acid encoding the calcium-activated potassium channel protein. The invention also provides a method and a composition for assaying a compound which increases or decreases a potassium ion flux through a calcium-activated potassium channel.
