PURPOSE: To allow a small-size printer with a type ring to be stably operated at low cost by using a system in which the selection of the type ring for two figures is made by only one electromagnet and types for two figures are selected by turning the type ring shaft two times.

CONSTITUTION: When printing command is put in, a motor begins to turn, a selection claw control lever 7 is turned in the direction of arrow (g) by a groove cam, and selection claw 4B for even-numbered figures is lifted up. When the type ring shaft 1 turns in the direction of arrow (a), the type ring 2B for even- numbered figures and stopped. When the type ring 2A for odd-numbered figures turns and type 201 reaches printing position, electric current is supplied to an electromagnet 5, the type ring 2A is stopped by the selection claw 4A, and a desired type is selected. Then, the selection claw control lever 7 is turned in the direction of arrow (h) by the groove cam of a cam toothed wheel 17, the selection claw 4B is lowered, even-numbered figures are selected by the same method as in the foregoing, and then printing operation is started.
