Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the small-sized electric furnace for working an optical fiber which is not affected by ambient temp. and has excellent temp. stability and long life. CONSTITUTION:The small-sized electric furnace for working the optical fiber is constituted by forming an alloy thin film 2 consisting of platinum rhodium added with a small amt. of zirconia on the outside surface of an alumina insulating pipe (furnace core pipe) 1 opened at both ends in tight contact with the surface, mounting terminals 3 respectively to both ends of the alloy thin film 2 and further, placing a heater slotted 4 by a cutter in its axial direction at the center of foamed alumina (refractory heat insulating material) 6 provided with a slot 5. Both ends of the foamed alumina 6 and the heater are fixed by refractory cement 7 in the state of setting the slot 4 and the slit 5 in the same direction and the optical fiber 8 is housed at the center of the heater along the slot 5 and the slot 4. The alumina insulating pipe 1 is then heated by passing a current to the alloy thin film 2 from the terminals 3.
