Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the maximum safety with the minimum required passage area by shifting a passenger seat by a specified distance to the rear, extending a dashboard to the rear by the distance, extending an outer longitudinal member to the height of an upper edge of a rear tire, and providing no overhang portion beyond a rear wheel on a vehicle body.
CONSTITUTION: A passenger seat 3 is arranged to be longitudinally offset to the rear with respect to a driver's seat 2 located beside it, by up to half the depth of a seat cushion, and a dashboard 4 extends back with its side which is directed towards the seat in its passenger-side region 5. An outer longitudinal member 6 is curved in a range of a rear axle, and extends up to at least the level of a tire upper edge 7 to allow a lower portion of the passenger seat 3 to be covered by the longitudinal member 6. In addition, a vehicle body is prevented from having any overhang portion beyond a rear wheel 8. As a result, the rear axle is used for absorbing the impact force directly in a rear impact. The visibility for a driver is also remarkably improved.
