PURPOSE: To prevent erosion of furnace hearth caused by digging friction and to prolong the service life by blowing granular solid raw material, etc., into molten metal from a lance hung down from upper part of a smelting furnace body and changing the blowing position horizontally on the plane in the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: In the smelting furnace 1 for copper, the lance 7... are inserted into lance holes 8... bored in a roof and hung down. The granular copper mineral concentrate as raw material is blown from the lance 7... together with oxygen enriched air. By this method, the above copper mineral concentrate is smelted to produce matte 2 and slag 3. In the roof of the above smelting furnace 1, further plural lance holes 9... are bored. In the above lances 7, the lance developing the erosion to the furnace hearth by the digging friction is shifted from the position of lance hole 8 to the position of lance hole 9. The progressing of erosion at the above eroded position is stopped and the magnetite is piled and the digged port is restored. By this method, the erosion at the furnace hearth can be prevented.
