Abstract:

PURPOSE: To accelerate the reduction reaction of fine ore by forming a fire spot in a reactor with gaseous oxygen blown from a tuyere and by blowing the ore into the fire spot from other tuyere so as to increase the rate of melting of the ore.

CONSTITUTION: Metallic ore or metallic oxide introduced into a reactor 1 such as a converter from an ore introducing tuyere 5 is melted by heating with gaseous oxygen fed from an oxygen introducing tuyere 6 and the reduction reaction of the resulting melt is carried out to form molten metal 7 and slag 8. In the smelting and reduction method, a fire spot which is a high temp. region is formed in the reactor 1 with gaseous oxygen blown from the tuyere 6 and fine ore is blown into the fire spot from the tuyere 5. The fine or may be blown together with a flux as required. The blown fine ore absorbs heat quickly and melts.
