To provide a sock material or a sock formed with a perforated pattern on a tiptoe part, preventing stuffiness of the foot, especially a toe crotch and a contact toe part even when worn a sock slip off when taking exercise, and to provide a method for knitting the sock material or sock.

This method for knitting the sock material or sock includes performing appropriately a stitch moving step of moving two stitches placed at a prescribed interval, of stitches forming a cylindrical knitted fabric to side stitches adjacent to each other followed by overlapping on each other, forming stitches by supplying a yarn to a knitting needle to engage the overlapped stitches, and further moving the formed stitches to side stitches adjacent to each other followed by overlapping on each other. Furthermore, the method includes restoring the number of stitches to the number of stitches before stitch moving by a stitch increasing means such as knitting out and stitch proportional increase so as to form a perforated pattern.
