Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a SOD(superoxide dismutase)-like extract composition containing a coffee bean extract, having a safe excellent SOD action, and exhibiting the effect even in a small amount.
SOLUTION: This SOD-like extract composition contains 0.0005-5 wt.% of a coffee bean extract extracted from coffee beans. The SOD-like extract composition is forcibly orally administered into rat through stomach tubes, and the SOD activity and the peroxidized lipid concentration in the bodies are measured from the obtained blood samples. Consequently, the SOD activities of all test groups are higher than those of control groups, and a significant difference therebetween is thereby recognized. It is also recognized that the concentrations of peroxidized lipids are significantly lower than those of the control groups. The SOD-like extract composition thereby shows to exhibit the actions in vivo by the oral administration and further significantly enhance the active oxygen- eliminating ability of the bodies even in small amounts.
