Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for enhancement of sodium ion secondary battery charge and discharge cycle characteristics, which makes possible to overcome the problem of an electrolyte including high-density sodium ions that metal sodium is deposited on the inner face of a battery case, and the metal sodium tends to facilitate the decomposition of organic cations included in a molten salt and consequently, worsen charge and discharge cycle characteristics.SOLUTION: A sodium ion secondary battery comprises: an electrode group including a positive electrode and a negative electrode; an electrolyte impregnated into the electrode group; and a case 18 having a container 14 with an opening for inserting the electrode group, and an opening-seal plate 16 for closing the opening. The electrolyte includes 80 mass% or more of a molten salt. The molten salt includes cations and anions. The cations include sodium ions and organic cations. The rate of the sodium ions to the total of the sodium ions and the organic cations is 20-50 mol%. The container 14 and the opening-seal plate 16 each include aluminum. The case is electrically connected with the positive electrode. In this way, the sodium ion secondary battery is arranged so as to be less prone to suffering the deposition of metal sodium on the case inner face.
