Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent UV rays and to obviate the elution of a specified UV absorbent having a radical polymerizable functional group by subjecting a specific resin monomer and this UV absorbent to casting copolymn., then subjecting this copolymer to grinding, polishing and water impregnating.
CONSTITUTION: The UV absorbent having the radical polymerizable functional group expressed by formula II is mixed at 0.05 to 8.0 pts.wt. with 100 pts. specified monomer mixture consisting of 50 to 85 pts.wt. 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or acrylate, 3 to 30 pts.wt. bifunctional acrylicester (or methacrylic ester) expressed by formula I, 5 to 30 pts.wt. vinyl pyrrolidone, and 3 to 10 pts.wt. αmethyl styrene and the mixture is subjected to the casting copolymn., then to the grinding, polishing and water impregnating. Then, the UV absorbent is fixed to the soft contact lens. The soft contact lens which has an effect of preventing the UV rays known to be a cause for the light hazard of the eyes and does not elute the UV absorbent to injure the eyes is obtd.
