To provide softener compositions excellent in storage stability which achieve treatment providing fibers with excellent softness and water absorption and providing clothes with moisture retention during the use.

The softener compositions contain one or more cationic surfactants (A) selected from the group consisting of cationic surfactants (A1) of quaternary ammonium salts and cationic surfactants (A2) represented by the general formula (2). The cationic surfactants (A) have counter anions produced by deprotonation of an acid (S) with a pKa of 0-6.3.
