Title:
SOIL AMENDMENT METHOD UTILIZING PHOTOSYNTHETIC BACTERIA
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3397359
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce treatment equipment installation cost and maintenance cost and to reutilize a landfill site at an early stage by mixing photosynthetic bacteria with contaminated soil and introducing light into the soil by an optical fiber to decompose a contaminant.
CONSTITUTION: In a soil amendment method for modifying contaminated soil by a biological means, photosynthetic bacteria are mixed with the contaminated soil and light is introduced into the soil by an optical fiber to decompose the contaminant. By this constitution, even in anaerobic environment such as soil, photosynthetic bacterial are propagated more rapidly as compared with anaerobic bacteria accelerating spoilage to enable the decomposition of the contaminant. Since photosynthetic bacteria suppress the activity of other anaerobic bacteria generating malodorous gas and methane gas, these gases can be reduced. Further, a contaminant is decomposed in contaminated soil or a landfill disposal site and BOD of exuded water is also lowered and the operation cost of an exuded water treatment device can be reduced.
