PURPOSE: A soil conditioner for agriculture and horticulture with sufficient photodegradability and suitable water- and heat-retaining properties, easily decomposable into soil in a short time, which comprises crushed foam primarily composed of 1,2-polybutadiene.
CONSTITUTION: A soil conditioner comprising crushed foam primarily composed of 1,2-polybutadiene, pref. blended with a small amt. of a highly water-absorbing resin powder. Said foam is continuously prepd. by crosslinking 1,2-polybutadiene contg. a photosensitizer and a thermally decomposable foaming agent, or a polymer blend system of a thermoplastic resin contg. the same as one component into the three-dimentional network by irradiation with UV of a predetermined wavelength and strength, followed by expansion by heating at a temp. not lower than the decomposition temp. of the foaming agent. When expanded 10W20-fold by vol. it is suitably used. The conditioner is mixed with soil in a proportion of 10W90vol% based on the soil.
