Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solar power generation system capable of producing primary electrical energy at high efficiencies.SOLUTION: A solar power generation system includes a sunlight concentrating system (for example, a heliostat) 310D, a thermophotovoltaic (TPV) converter 200D and a thermal power generation system 320D. The TPV converter includes a metamaterial emitter 100D formed on a box-like enclosure 110D, and associated photovoltaic (PV) cells 210D-1, 210D-2. The sunlight concentrated through an inlet opening 115D of the box-like enclosure so as to heat the metamaterial emitter above 1,000°K generates an energy beam having a peak emission wavelength equal to a grating period of separated concentric ridges, when heated in bull's eye structures 120D-1, 120D-2, and the energy beam is converted into primary electrical energy by the PV cells. Unconverted sunlight energy is converted into secondary electrical energy by the thermal power generation system using a steam generator 324D.
