To damp noise caused by air propagation and to reduce the generation of noise by a method wherein a solenoid-operated three-way valve insulated from vibration of a manifold by a rubber retainer and a series of sockets is immersed into transmission fluid.
A three-way valve 10 is disposed in a transmission manifold 12 provided with an insulation body 14 at which a cover plate 16 is fixed in an insulating body 14 fixed at a cover plate 16 by a cover screw 18. A pressure relief cavity 54 with which the whole of the three-way valve 10 is surrounded is formed in the manifold 12. The three-way valve 10 is immersed into transmission fluid in the cavity 52 up to a liquid level to which fluid is discharged through a port hole from the cavity 52 to a transmission reservoir for return. Further, the three-way valve 10 has a whole covered with a rubber retainer 58, and in a way that the rubber retainer 58 is supported by an auxiliary retainer made of a steel, centering of the three-way valve 10 and the rubber retainer 58 is facilitated and the auxiliary retainer is supported at the rubber retainer 58 by tightening a screw.
