To obtain the subject catalyst component exhibiting a high activity by constituting the catalyst with a titanium compound containing a specific amount or less of an arsenic content with a magnesium compound and an electron donor.
This solid catalyst component for an olefin polymerization is obtained by constituting the component with (A) a titanium compound containing ≤0.0005 wt.%, preferably ≤0.0003 wt.%, more preferably ≤0.0002 wt.% arsenic content with (B) a magnesium compound and (C) an electron donor. As the component (A), a highly chlorine-containing titanium compound, especially titanium tetrachloride is preferable. As the component (B) a compound of the formula: MgR2R3 [R2, R3 are each a hydrocarbon, OR4 (R4 is a hydrocarbon) or a halogen] is preferable and concretely a magnesium halide, an alkoxymagnesium, etc., are preferable. As the component (C), an aromatic dicarboxylic acid diester, etc., are preferable. An olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained by containing the above catalyst components and an organic aluminum compound.
