PURPOSE: To obtain a solid electrolyte to which a multilayer electrode is applied and in which electrochemical decomposition reactions conventionally having adverse effects on the long-term durability of an electrode are prevented from being caused.
CONSTITUTION: This solid electrolyte is provided with a multilayer oxygen electrode that is used for high temp. electrolysis and applied to the electrolyte, and has a molar composition represented by the formula [(ZrO2)1-a(T2 O3)a]1-b[Al2O3]b (wherein: 0.03≤L≤0.20; and 0.01≤≤b0.25). In the solid electrolyte, an upper electrode layer for substantially supplying electric power consists of an electronically conductive oxide material, and also, a first intermediate layer consisting of a mixture of an electronically conductive material and an oxygen-ion conductive material in a mixing ratio by volume of 90:10 to 10:90 is placed on the underside of the upper electrode layer, and further, a second intermediate layer that contains no Al2O3 and consists of completely or partially stabilized zirconium oxide, is formed between the first intermediate layer and the solid electrolyte.
